This is post 100 of this blog, written hours away from going into daylight saving time. It's 5 degrees Celsius, with some wind. Some of last week's snow is still around. Today was sunny, nippy. Today we have 13 hours and 3 minutes of sunlight and we gain 5 minutes every day during this time of most rapid change in light exposure. Spring is on its way.
I've noticed I don't update this blog very often anymore. I suppose that is because I do not do specifically bloggable deeds these days, or I'm just not behaving like a tourist. The job is good, the house if great. I have a slightly boring social life but it's picking up. In two months we'll have moved M and our stuff here from two-thirds of the Benelux, and that'll certainly make things interesting. The language is (obviously) the most tiresome feature of this new life. I learned that the difference between seitsemät sukat and seitsemän sukkaa is seven socks. Grammar rules. Go figure. It's also a challenge, and that's a good thing. So I keep telling myself.
This morning I walked out to get some money for a haircut. On my way I stepped into my local design outlet centre and noticed the sign near the elevator that the top floor houses the porcelain factory museum. Having nothing better to do I went up and looked at cups. And plates. And some pots. And some more cups. The Arabia factory dates back to the 1870s..well, no use repeating that stuff here, while you can take the tour yourself. From the ninth floor windows of the museum I was happy to appreciate what a nice area I live in, and I'm sorry I didn't bring my camera to relate it to you here.
I got the haircut, eventually, after first trying out my local barber and failing miserably to communicate. Downtown (at the World Trade Centre) I found a barber that advertised their business in most languages known to man. I had a very interesing session with my Kosovar hairdresser, and I now have very interesting hair. I deliberately have not produced any photographic evidence but those of you known to me and active on the skype network will undoubtedly find out for yourselves what rockstar-flair I have now acquired. If I figure out how to tame the do with the more-expensive-than-the-cut-itself supply of grease, that is. If not, I will have to hide in my basement for a few weeks.
